CP Kelco, which is part of the American JM Huber concern, is the leading global producer of speciality hydrocolloids with 1850 employees and more than 2000 customers in over 100 countries, and facilities in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America. CP Kelco is the world largest producer of pectin. The R&D section is a centre of excellence within CP Kelco world wide comprising 60 people both scientists and technical staff.
Key competences and facilities
CP Kelco recruited António Filipe Gomes Teixeira de Sousa; and hosted Merve Kaya's secondment; and organized the network-training event 1. ESRs/ER will be hosted in R&D labs, well equipped for standard and advanced pectin analysis & including a technologically highly specialized pilot plant for large scale experimental extractions. R&D labs are situated close to production facilities, which provides optimal conditions for collecting relevant samples from the industrial process.
Dr S. Sørensen (scientist in charge) has been actively involved in cell wall research and her main present focus is cell wall structure of citrus fruits in relation to pectin production. She has been involved in 2 EU-funded projects and has published around 20 research articles.
H. P. Mathiesen (application scientist) has been working in CP Kelco's Customer Support & Applicatons' Fruit team for 8 years. The work involves development of jam formulations for customers, participation in pectin product development projects and training of customers and colleagues.
