University of Potsdam was founded out of the Potsdam College of Education in 1991. Presently approximately about 18,000 students study in the various departments of the university. With about 5,000 students the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is the second largest faculty of the university. The bioinformatics group strongly co-operates with the bioinformatics infra structure group at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam-Golm.

Key competences and facilities

The Bioinformatics group, at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, develops new methodologies for the analysis, integration & visualization of large data sets for the understanding of biological systems.

University of Potsdam recruited Dhivyaa Rajasundaram; and organized the network-training event 4. Dhivyaa Rajasundaram will have full access to all the necessary hard- and softwares including a high-performance PC-cluster for bioinformatics and systems biology research.

Key persons

Prof J. Selbig (scientist in charge) is one of the initiators of the GoFORSYS Sys-tems Biology project on Photosynthesis and Growth. He has renowned expertise on the development & application of machine learning methods as well as on methods from applied graph theory to biochemical & bio-physical problems. He is involved in several EU as well as nationally funded projects and contri-buted to a large number of important publications in highly ranked journals.
